MY CAPPA Story—Lee McQueen – Retired, PE Emeritus, M.E.M.—University of Nebraska at Kearney
I am the current CAPPA historian. This means I’m old, and retired. I’m hopeful I can express how my CAPPA experience can provide value to you. Here’s the short version of my professional journey: I graduated with degrees in mechanical engineering and business administration, worked for a mechanical electrical design firm for 4 years, and got my engineering license. Since that time, I’ve worked in Higher Ed for 39 years, across 4 states, at 5 public universities. Two constants across this journey are the patience of my wife, Patty, and a connection to CAPPA.
My CAPPA Story—Jenny Cundiff – Energy Educator/Manager—Oklahoma State University
I first learned about CAPPA in 2016 when I was introduced to the organization by Ron Tarbutton, Chief Facilities Officer, Facilities Management at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. At the time, Ron was serving with APPA and CAPPA, and he asked if I would be interested in serving with CAPPA as the Newsletter Editor. After some research and a long conversation, I learned more about CAPPA and all that it offered to professionals in higher education facilities management positions, and I knew I wanted to get involved.
My CAPPA Story—Angie Mitchell – Assistant Director Facilities Management, Southeast Missouri State University
My first CAPPA experience was the 2015 Tech Conference in San Antonio. I learned so much in those sessions and made contacts I still have today! But, an email from Glen Haubold on May 6, 2015 really changed my life for the better. On that date Glen sent out an email letter requesting volunteers for the CAPPA Committee and Executive Board . . . and the rest is history!!
My CAPPA Story—Ben Boslaugh Utilities Manager, Missouri State University
My first time attending a CAPPA event was in 2007. I was new to supervision in a higher education setting.
University of Arkansas Fayetteville was hosting the annual conference. I was attending Supervisor Toolkit with a co-worker. That year’s Toolkit facilitators were Glen H., Vickie Y., and Steve M. Toolkit was a great benchmark training experience. More than just a leadership checkup, it laid out some great ground rules. Coaching on the move has always stuck with me. Toolkit helped guide me through the transition of my skills from the military realm to the facilities environment.
