Director, Facility Operations and Maintenance

The University of Arkansas Facilities Management Department is now accepting applications for the Director, Facility Operations and Maintenance. Primary duty areas include, but are not limited to:  Management responsibility for the overall operations & maintenance program for all campus educational and general (E&G) facilities (4.5 M square feet), through a Zone Maintenance management strategy consisting of (6) maintenance zones and a total of 37 staff and supervisors. Unit has primary responsibility for ongoing preventive maintenance programs and oversees the campus elevator service contract.

Management responsibility for Building Services (120 staff and supervisors), which provides custodial services   for 4.5 M square feet of E&G and other associated campus facilities, and the campus E&G window washing contract. 

Oversees the University’s Recycling Program and the solid waste disposal contract.  Responsible for the campus landscape and grounds program, and the integrated pest management and control contract, with ongoing planning, development, and implementation, of campus landscape and grounds requirements.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree in Building Sciences, Architectural Engineering, Facilities Management, Operations Management or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of facility operations experience with at least 5 years of direct supervisory experience required.  Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:  Master’s Degree in Building Sciences, Architectural Engineering, Facilities Management, Operations Management or a related field. Basic understanding and some hands on experience with landscape & grounds programs, custodial programs and recycling programs. Experience working in the Higher Education institution.  Current credentials through APPA CEFP (Certified Educational Facilities Professional), IFMA Facility Management Professional, EFP – entry level with up to 4 years’ experience.

Working hours:  Mon-Fri 7:30am – 4:00pm.  Starting salary commensurate with education and experience.
